Data recovery for Hassocks. A postcode that became a parish.
Hassocks began as a postcode. Until 2000 the ground was split between the parishes of Clayton and Keymer, and Hassocks was only the name of the postal district; the parish came afterwards. It is a village of 8,498 people on the parish council's own 2021 census figure, on the main line, with the Downs between it and Brighton — and the computing here is mostly domestic.

How a Hassocks job goes.
Four questions from Hassocks.
Do you cover a village the size of Hassocks?
Yes. Most of what arrives from Hassocks is domestic — one laptop, one external drive, a NAS unit out of a back bedroom. A household job goes on the same bench, and through the same free diagnosis, as a company's.
Is a village job treated differently from a business one?
No. The order of work is the same either way: look at the drive, quote in writing, image it, then read the images. What changes is the size of the job, not the care.
Our Hassocks shop has lost its till records. Now what?
Stop using the machine and call. Till and stock systems keep their data in ordinary database files, and those are usually readable once the disk has been imaged and left alone.
Any advice before posting?
Two things. Don't run repair utilities on a drive you care about, and write down what happened and when. The note in the box is worth more than it looks.
