RAID Array Failures:

A RAID array can function with up to as many as five drives at the same time. Each one of them capable of sending, receiving and mirroring information sent between the others to keep an up to date record of the data being used. As RAID technology becomes more affordable it is not just big businesses and corporations that use this technology to store their data. Home users are doing so also and use it to stream audio and video around a small office or their home. However, just in the same way as an ordinary laptop, PC or external hard drive can fail so too can a RAID drive. A common problem seen with RAID arrays is that more than one drive can sometimes fail or a newly installed drive can cause others to fail during a rebuild.

RAID Drive Faulty Mechanics:

A mechanical failing in a RAID device can sometimes leave one drive malfunctioning while the rest will continue on and mirror the data across the remaining functioning drives. This may sound as though it is solving a problem but there are problems inherent with this. If these issues are left unchecked they can cause the further loss of data on a huge scale. If you have suffered a RAID failure because of a physical issue contact us at Brighton Data Recovery and we can best advise on how to recover your data and rebuild your array.

RAID Arrays And Rebuilding Them:

Rebuilding a RAID array is not always straightforward and it should be noted by anyone attempting the procedure that there is a strong likelihood it will fail if not all of the components within the array are in 100% working order. A failure during a RAID rebuild is one of the most common reasons we at Brighton Data Recovery are asked to assist with the recovery of data from a RAID setup. It seems that the risk of losing data because of a failed RAID rebuild is not something all of us consider. Contact us at Brighton Data Recovery if you have any issues or fears about a RAID rebuild and we will happily help if we can.

RAID Array Firmware Failures:

RAID arrays and the corruption of their Firmware rank among the top five issues we have been faced with. As all of the hard drives installed come complete with their own Firmware built in and pass through small printed circuit boards (PCBs), a power surge can render the Firmware corrupt and thus render the disk(s) unusable. You may find that you are unable to repair a RAID array or reconstitute the data accurately. If you do find that you are in this position please contact us here at Brighton Data Recovery and our team of experts will advice and support as well as their knowledge and use of sophisticated data recovery tools.

Faulty RAID Controller Cards:

Replacing the drives in your RAID server is not always enough. Sometimes it may not be necessary because the problem is a faulty controller card. The controller card, built into the PC to which the RAID array is attached, may develop problems if the firmware is corrupt. Indeed it may simply be because of degradation over time. The instructions provided with a new card may allow for our clients to install a new one but once installed a new card does not always guarantee success or allow for the correct mirroring of data on the already mounted disks. When this happens we at Brighton Data Recovery are called upon to help rectify the problem (1) ensuring the data is safely and fully recovered and (2) making sure the controller is communicating correctly with the RAID setup. Contact us for further information if your controller card (new or old) does not allow for the correct storage and access of newly created data.
