D-Link NAS Disk Repair
I am using a NAS through the D-Link ShareCenter. I have been using it for a long time, saving different MP3s onto it. There did not seem to be a problem until the NAS told me that the files had become corrupted, and it was unable to read them anymore. I looked on My Computer, and also noticed that many of the directory folders had become badly corrupted too. I ran a CHKDSK on the whole system, and ended up with a drive which I can no longer access at all. I was told that I had to format it again by the NAS, and so I ran through the process with the D-Link. After this, the drive has failed completely, and says that the drives have been deleted. If I try to go into one of the drives, I get a few files which contain a few lines of gibberish, and no MP3 files are available at all. I don’t understand what has happened, but I would like to recover the data from the drives.

I am having trouble resolving an issue with a D-Link DNS 323. I was using it as a secondary backup to another NAS, and I took the trouble to find out about the latest firmware, and the best way to start up the system to ensure that it didn’t crash. What happened was that my older drive started to fail, and I was forced to rely more upon the D-Link. I had to add a new drive to the NAS in order to accommodate the amount of data I wanted to save. I knew that there was some danger in doing this, but I steeled myself, and fitted the new drive. Initially the second drive was recognised by the D-Link Utility, and then ran through the formatting process. However, the process stopped rather suddenly, and then the D-Link put up a warning notice, called Error 112. I was expecting this, and took out the older drive, and allowed the system to format the newer drive. I put the system back together, and the drive should be working now, but it is not.

Although renown the world over for their routers and modems in more recent times D-Link have ventured into the territory of producing storage devices for both home and office use such as Network Attached Storage (NAS).

Some software used in conjunction with these arrays only represents a partial success rate.
These setups use a series of blinking LEDS to signify whether or not the drives are working correctly and for the most part when it comes to the D-Link DNS range an amber light on the front of the array will signify disk problems occurring.
You will find that trying to access the arrays via your operating system may prove a fruitless exercise even though they are listed as being visible on the network setup of your operating system be it a Windows, Linux or IOS operating system.
These models – the DNS 320, DNS 323 (also known as Sharecenter) operate on the principle that they are formatted primarily using Linux so problems arising are often required to be repaired using the software from a third party manufacturer or programmer. With this in mind it is not always the case that such software, should you choose to try using it, will be successful.
